This friendly organisation was set up in 1997 by Marion and Trevor King to arrange Ski and Bridge holidays in the Alps for guests to enjoy their winter sports during the daytime along with a full programme of Duplicate Bridge to enjoy in the evenings as an aprés ski activity.
Staying in good quality hotels with alpine character the aprés ski emphasis is on Bridge with seminars and discussions led by Mike Graham, an extremely experienced tournament player and amusing speaker who is always available to talk about those tricky hands and interesting bidding problems. The duplicate sessions are directed by Trevor King who is an E.B.U. qualified County director who has also been a member of the EBU panel of Tournament Directors. Trevor is also a fully qualified Professional Bridge teacher. Marion is also an experienced teacher and is a wizard at computer scoring.
Sadly during the 100th Alpine Bridge holiday in March 2020 the Covid Pandemic hit the Alpine Ski resorts hard, and it was with great regret that the special activities planned for the week had to be curtailed and all the guests had to rapidly return to the UK as the first lockdowns in Europe commenced.
Following a total shutdown of the ski lifts in France during the 2021 ski season, an increasing level of uncertainty has caused the permanent closure of our chosen venue, the Hotel l'Ancolie in Champagny, which has now been sold for a major re-development project. As there is still no end in sight to possible further disruption, we have regrettably taken the decision to cancel our continuing activities in the Alps until further notice.
However, we have decided to continue with our plans for a series of summer vacations in and around the UK, staying in good quality hotels with the emphasis on visiting areas of outstanding natural beauty, and the enjoyment of good food and wine Naturally we will continue to run our friendly Duplicate Bridge sessions each evening. There will also be the occasional City break holiday where guests will be able to see some major tourist attractions in places such as Chester, Bath and York. Wine tasting trips are also planned.
Recently, short holidays on Cruise ships have been a part of the summer programme with Northerly voyages to the magnificent scenery of the Norwegian Fjords and the Baltic, along with Southward travel to the sunnier regions of France, Portugal and Spain.
First time bridge players are welcome, as lessons can be organised. Bridge partners can be guaranteed for those travelling solo.
