Serre Chevalier and Briançon.

A winter view across the town

Briançon is the Highest town in France situated at a height of 1326 metres in the Southern French Alps, very close to the Italian border and approximately the same elevation as the village of Champagny en Vanoise, our previous Alpine Bridge home. Our chosen accommodation here, The Parc Hotel, is in a fairly central position and a short walk of around 300 metres from the recently renovated main gondola to access the slopes.

It is also known as the Southern Gateway to the fabulous ski area of Serre Chevalier, as can be seen from the Piste Map. It has its own quiet ski slopes above the Town, and access to a high speed modern chair lift over the Col du Prorel to link with the whole range of mountains rising above the other three main villages making up the resort.

Fun in the snow!

The old fortified town is well worth a visit while you are staying at the Parc which is situated just a little way up the hill from the Hotel.

The newer town has an array of good restaurants and shops as well as a local market on Wednesday and Sunday mornings very close by to where we are staying. There is a Railway station in the Town for relatively easy access for those wishing to travel by train from London. There is a nearby motorway link to Turin Airport via the Montgenevre pass for those who wish to fly to our new holiday destination.

It is a wonderful thought that we will all be returning to Serre Chevalier once more, where former guests of Alpine Bridge all skied together for the first time in January 1998. It is our spiritual Birthplace after all!
